LibraryLinks.org Customizable Subject Directories

Directories

We offer a suite of directories. Each directory is specifically designed to meet the needs of each educational audience.
  • Elementary School
  • Jr. High & High School
  • College
  • Public Library

Subject Categories & Links
  • Subject categories and links have been chosen to specifically meet the needs of students, educators, library patrons and professional librarians.
  • We strive to only include links to reputable and reliable high quality free internet sites which promote and facilitate education and learning.
  • Links have been included based upon their educational merit and reliability of authorship.
  • Categories and links have also been included based upon suggestions from directory users (librarians, educators, professionals, experts, students, etc.).
  • Subject categories include not only links to specific sites but also links to human edited resource directories which include human-selected Internet resources (i.e. Google Directory, Yahoo Directory Open Directory Project, Educypedia, Internet Public Library, Librarian's Internet Index, Intute, eiNET, etc.)..
  • The directories also include useful online reference resources and tools (calculators, dictionaries, etc.).
  • If you would like to review the directory please feel free to take advantage of our FREE Trial Subscription.

Wikipedia
  • Although there continues to be debate on whether or not Wikipedia is a reliable resource of information we have chosen to include Wikipedia entries in the LibraryLinks.org directories.
  • We feel that searching Wikipedia for accurate information is a good choice for most students and patrons as long as they are searching for mainstream information.
  • We would not suggest citing Wikipedia as a source of information in a research paper and do not feel Wikipedi is a substitute for other reputable academic sources.
  • We feel that Wikipedia is a great starting point if you are trying to find information about a certain topic.
  • We feel that Wikipedia is the best free online encyclopedia on the Internet ~ especially with the discontinuation of MSN Encarta.
  • A few studies have shown that overall Wikipedia is a reliable source of information.  Most notably, in 2005 Nature carried out a study that showed that Wikipedia was almost as reliable as the Encyclopedia Britannica.
  • In addition to Wikipedia we have included links to other free online encyclopedias such as Citizendium, Wikipedia Selection for Schools and New World Encyclopedia whenever possible.

Searching the Directory
  • The subject directory contains a search function for locating categories and links within the directory.
  • The directory search function is not an Internet search engine and does not search the Internet. To search the Internet, the user must access and use an Internet search engine (Google, Yahoo, etc.). The directory does contain a comprehensive listing of search engines though!

Directory Updates & Maintenance
  • We continually update and maintain the directory for you.
  • We check the integrity of the directory's links on a regular basis using link checker software.
  • We also browse through the directory on a regular basis searching for errors, omissions and broken links.
  • Each page of the directory includes an email link for reporting bad or broken links.
  • We are continuously improving the directory and the search for new and useful sites is ongoing.
  • You are encouraged to participate in improving the directory with your comments and suggestions.
  • If you know of a useful resource or useful category we encourage you to contact us.
  • Each page of the directory contains an email link for suggesting new links and/or categories.
  • We strive to maintain the directory in accordance with the American Library Association's Code of Ethics and Library Bill of Rights.
